Who is it for?
Designed specifically for teachers who coach speaking in multiple settings—competitions, classroom presentations, debates, school events, oral exams, and university interview prep. This practical course blends coaching techniques with adjudication skills, so you can guide students effectively and evaluate them consistently.
It’s also suitable for club leaders/coordinators seeking consistent approaches across teams and for future adjudicators in the National Public Speaking Competition in English.
What We’ll Cover
- From Topic to Thesis – interpreting themes (competition or curriculum), narrowing focus, defining aims, building a student-owned outline.
- Evidence, Narrative, and Rhetoric – research shortcuts, credible sources, examples/anecdotes, signposting, repetition for emphasis, audience analysis.
- Delivery That Lands – voice & bodywork drills, using notes/visuals, timing, impromptu speaking, confident Q&A.
- Coaching Clinics – frameworks for 1:1 and whole-class coaching, motivating reluctant speakers, adapting to ages/abilities.
- Adjudication Essentials – why adjudication matters beyond contests (progress tracking, reporting, fair grading); calibration exercise (watch, score with rubric, compare, align); turning scores into actionable feedback (evidence-based comments, targets, next steps).
